Christopher Nolan, director of the latest Batman sequels Batman Begins and Darknight, is set to direct the latest installment in the Superman series and will take the franchise in a new direction just like he did for the Batman series. Superman the original comic book, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, was an instant success when it arrived on the publishing scene in June 1938 and it more or less paved the way for the American comic book and its signature concept, the superhero.
